Another trip to Coyote Hills means more neat birds

I startled this night heron a bit and he assumed this really unusual pose, then held it for a couple minutes while I snapped pictures. I guess he liked having his photo taken.

 This red shouldered hawk has been hanging around a section of the Alameda Creek trail for a while now. Finally got a nice picture of him.

It’s tough from most angles to see the cool blue plumage on the kestrel, but this over-the-shoulder shot shows it nicely.

The northern harriers were around again this week. This guy cruised around the central marshes for quite a while.
